Who we are

ChopCal is published by Vu Duy Kien, the developer named on its Google Play listing. You can reach us at vuduykien@gmail.com.

What ChopCal is

ChopCal is a nutrition-estimate app. From a photo of a meal it gives rough estimates of calories, protein, fat and carbohydrate. It is a general-wellness tool. Estimate only. Not a substitute for professional guidance. Talk to a health professional about your diet.

What we collect

Account: your email address and a hashed password. Diary: the meals you save (food, portion, time) and your daily carb target. Usage: a count of scans per day, to apply the daily limit. Photos: the meal photo you choose to scan (see below). We do not collect your location, contacts, or advertising ID, and the app has no ads and no third-party analytics or tracking tools. The only usage events we record are two anonymous share events (a share sheet opened, a share card sent), written to our own server log with no photo and no personal information.

Your meal photos and the AI service

When you scan a meal, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to a third-party AI service (Cloudflare Workers AI) so it can name the food in the image. We ask for your consent before your first scan. Only the photo is sent for the scan: not your name, email or diary. ChopCal does not store the photo after the estimate is produced. That provider's own terms and privacy policy apply to the photo while it is processed. Avoid faces, documents or other personal details in the frame. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings; the app will ask again before your next scan.

Where data is stored

The app runs on Cloudflare (Cloudflare Workers, with your account and diary in a Cloudflare D1 database). Our hosting provider records technical request logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) to deliver and protect the service; we keep them for no more than 7 days and use them only for security and troubleshooting. Data may be processed in countries other than yours.

How we use data

Only to run the app: sign you in, show your diary and target, apply the daily scan limit, and turn a photo into a nutrition estimate. We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.

Keeping data safe

Data travels over HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Access to the database is limited to the service that runs the app.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your data, and you can object to how we use it. Write to vuduykien@gmail.com; we answer within 30 days. If you are in the EU or UK you can also complain to your local data protection authority. We do not sell or share personal information, including as those terms are used in California law.

How long we keep data

Your account and diary are kept until you delete them. Deleting your account removes it from the live database immediately. Database backups (point-in-time recovery) can still hold deleted data for up to 30 days; after that it is gone for good. Daily scan counts are only used for the daily limit.

Age

ChopCal is for adults 18 and over. It is not directed to anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Settings, using “Delete my account and all my data”. This permanently removes your account, saved meals and target. It cannot be undone. See also how to delete your account.
